My Last Indonesian Sunset
March 20, 2014 Bali, Indonesia
It’s hard to describe the feelings going through my head as I sat and watched this sunset. In less than 24 hours I would be in Australia, arriving with a little over $100 usd in my pocket. Two days earlier, I missed my flights out of Indonesia and had to repurchase the cheapest flight into Australia I could afford. Two days over my visa for Indonesia, there was the looming thought on my mind that border control could check to see if I had appropriate funds in my bank account. I had been granted a one year working holiday visa and knew I was supposed to be arriving with $5,000 dollars to prove I could support myself until I found work. Going home seemed a real possibility at this point.
“Sitting alone as I did on my first day, lost in thought, and eating nasi goreng, I watch my last Indonesian sunset that I will see in I’m not sure how long. I feel like a different person than I was two months ago when arriving in Bali. Jalan jalan di Indonesia has been one of the most eye-opening, amazing, experiences of my life. And it has been this because of teman bagus. Terima kasih semua teman for the amazing experiences, and opening your arms to me travelling within your country in this way. I look forward to seeing you all again soon…Santai Indonesia, tidak ada kekhawatiran, serta bebas :)(:”
